Kitzbuhel ski hotels and holiday packages

So tell me about it...

Kitzbuhel is a historic town dating from the 13th Century surrounding by the amazing Austrian Alps. It is the winter entertainment capital of Austria. Of all the resorts in Austria, Kitzbuhel remains the most glamorous and expensive.

The Kitzbuhel area has four main mountains, the Hahnenkamm, Kitzbuheler Horn, Bichlam, and Pass Thurn. The resort operates 60 lifts, including five cable cars, a new high-speed quad, 28 chair lifts, a bubble gondola, and 27 ski tows. This transportation system allows you a larger area to ski. Most of the skiing in the area is above the tree line. At the lower elevations, they make snow when needed.

At Kitzbuhel, there is a slope for every level of skier. For the beginner, there are small slopes at the Horn and Hahnenkamm ski areas. The intermediate skier will find that 43 percent of all trails are rated for them. Only eight percent of the trails at Kitzbuhel are designated expert. The expert skiers can still have a great time here.

Snowboarders should head to the Kitzbuheler Horn. Facilities here include free-riding terrain, a half-pipe, a funpark, as well as a boardercross. Freestylers, free riders, and riders on alpine boards will all find a home at Kitzbuhel. There are also lessons for those wanting to try snowboarding.Night skiing is available in Kitzbuhel, also. Most of the mountain closes at dusk. There are over 75 miles of trails for cross-country skiing in the area. Kitzbuhel alone has over 19 miles of groomed, marked trails.

Restaurants

There are many restaurants in Kitzbuhel with cuisine varying from local Tyrolean fare to Italian, French, Chinese and even Mexican! Traditional Inns like Huberbrau have delicious local meat specialties, while surprisingly, it is the Italian restaurants that are the most popular serving pizzas and pastas, Bariqu is highly recommended.
Fine dining restaurants Schwedenkapelle and Tennerhof Restaurants have excellent food and top service. Restaurant Neuwirt in the Schwarzer Adler Hotel was awarded a Michelin Star in 2005 and serves Tyrolean creative meals in a casual atmosphere.

Extras

Off piste activities at Kitzbuhel include, paragliding, hiking, snow shoeing, ice skating and curling, hot air ballooning, indoor tennis, bowling and indoor swimming at the Aquarena. There is a thrilling 5km long tobogganing course at Kirchberg which stays open until 10pm every night.

Beginners

The wide open nursery slopes at the bottom of the Hahnenkamm gondola, close to the town centre, are where the famous 'Red Devils' ski school meet. These nursery slopes provide the perfect introduction to skiing. The Kitzbüheler Horn also offers some great wide, undemanding blue runs.

Intermediate

Amidst the wealth of slopes on the huge ski circus, linked by an efficient lift system and a free ski bus service, intermediates are in their element - the swooping, wooded runs of the Ehrenbachhöhe and the exhilarating descents of the Kitzbüheler Horn and the Bärenbachkogel at Jochberg, to name but a few of the challenging and manageable pistes in store for the competent skier.

Experts

Proficient skiers will certainly want to test their skills on the 'Hahnenkamm Streif', considered by many to be the most testing of all the international racing pistes. If you dream of gigantic moguls and exhilarating off-piste, the Ehrenbachhöhe is not to be missed.

Snowboarders

The terrain on the Kitzbüheler Horn is one of Tyrol's most scenic and popular snowboarding areas and home to the local board park. Beginners can take advantage of the wide open blues down from Ehrenbachhöhe, whilst the new 3S gondola opens up a whole new area for the more advanced boarders.

The main activity for children at Kitzbuhel is skiing. Ski schools here have programs for children as young as three years old up to teenagers. Some hotels have daycare and babysitting programs.
