Crans Montana ski hotels and holiday packages

So tell me about it...

Originally two villages, the natural advantages and resulting popularity of Crans and Montana led to the two villages joining under one name in the 1960s. Those advantages begin with the resort's wonderful location, on a sunny terrace of lakes and woodland with views across the Rhone Valley and out towards the mountain peaks of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc.

Crans Montana's skiing is divided into three areas that are all lift linked together by five gondolas accessed from different points in the resort. The largest area is the Cry d'Err ski area and the second largest is the Violetted area where you can find some of the toughest runs in the resort. The third largest area is the Aminona ski area which is located above the Aminona resort centre.

In Crans-Montana, you can ski at altitudes ranging from 1500 right up to the glacier at 3000m. The ski area includes 28 ski lifts – amongst them, the brand new "Nationale Express" chairlift. The area extends over 140 km of marked pistes, a third of which can be covered with artificial snow, so a great ski season is guaranteed in this region which is among the sunniest in Valais.

Entertainment

There are nearly a hundred bars and restaurants to choose from, popular watering holes include the Amadeus Bar in Montana and Le Pub Georges and Dragon in Crans. The New Pub with pinball and giant TV screen pulls in the younger crowd. There's a Mexican restaurant and bar famous for its cocktails (Zapata), a Cuban bar with a large choice of cigars (Punch Bar), a wine bar with a wide selection of red and white (Postillon) and a bar offering a big selection of electronic games (Constellation). Late night entertainment provided by seven different night spots open through to 4am and the Friday disco night at the open air 'Patinoire d'Ycoor' ice rink is always good fun. In addition there is a cinema, often showing English language films, 10 pin bowling and a casino.

Gourmet & nightlife

With over 60 restaurants there is something to please everyone in Crans Montana. More unusual choices for the Alps include Chinese at the Dun Huang or La Poste, Lebanese and Mexican eateries. For fast, friendly food the aux Bonnes Choses crêperie and the Vieux Moulin pizzeria. Good traditional Swiss fayre is served at Le Bergerie du Cervin, Le Mayen, La Dent-Blanche, Le Greni and La Cave. The local cuisine includes French delicacies as well as Swiss dishes.

Extras

Crans Montana is a popular resort throughout the year, so there are a wide variety of apres ski activities for non-skiers, ranging from snow golf, horse riding and delightful cleared walks around the golf course and in the forest.

Beginners

Novice skiers have access to 3 cracking nursery areas and will soon find themselves exploring the higher runs.

Intermediates

Intermediate skiers in Crans Montana will be spoilt for choice with 28 red runs in all areas of the resort and at all levels of the 1,500 metre vertical. The long descent from the Plain-Morte glacier is particularly good.

Experts

The expert skiers head to the steep runs around La Toula or try the off-piste capers around Chesterton and La Tza.

Snowboarders

A popular choice for snowboarders who have a halfpipe at Pas du Loup and one park at La Tsa. All the pistes, which include runs of up to 12km (7.5 miles), are open to 'boarders , and most of the terrain is served by high capacity gondolas so no messing about on surface lifts - even better for 'boarders.
